I think the best answer is that farmers demand to stop crop-lien system. During the 1800s, the Farmer's Alliance was organized. It is an organization among American farmers where one of their goal is to end crop-lien system. Crop-lien system is where farmers are allowed to grow crops in the lands of merchant however the money they get from the crops are first given to the merchant and what's left is for them which is only a small amount.
