There were several reasons why the English should colonize the new world. One of the most important reasons was the fact that the new world had resources that the English did not have access to. Establishing colonies in North America would allow England to gain resources such as peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, tobacco, and turkey (to name a few).
Another reason why England should colonize was because it would expand their empire. During this time period of colonization, the strongest nations were the ones with the most land. England, not wanting to fall behind, made sure they colonized new lands often so they may be seen as a global superpower.
For the citizens who left England for the new world, they saw this is a golden opportunity to start over. Many poor English citizens took the trip to the new world in hopes of making a better life for themselves and their families.
