Mr. Gascoigne can be characterized with the word pompousness because his politcial talks related to patriotism and national glory. Indeed, pompousness is synonymous with excessive pride and exaggeration. After his talk, upcoming sentence characterizes Colonel Killgrew's traits. His behavior is relevant with the word lust because he was looking to a beautiful woman named Widow Wycherly. The latter is characterized in the beginning of the paragraph. Her character is synonymous with vanity. The widow does not realize that she is not beautiful. And final sentences is about Mr. Medbourne. He is greedy because all he do in this scene is just to calculate the amount of money.

Which is one way that Swift criticizes society in "A Modest Proposal"?
Alik [6]

Answer:

option A. In "A Modest Proposal" Jonathan Swift criticizes society by suggesting that people care so little about children they would be willing to sell and eat them.

Explanation:

"A Modest Proposal" was anonymously published by Swift in 1729. In it, the author argues, ironically, that a suitable solution for helping the starving children of Ireland would be to fatten them all and later feed them to the rich Irish land-owners. By suggesting these, Swift is giving the statement that the Irish society, specially the high class of land owners, care so little about the children that they would be more willing to sell them and eat them than to actually help them.
