The Constitution requires that state constitutions maintain a republican form of government and therefore the states followed the three branch model set by the federal government.

The Constitution gave specific and implied powers to the states. To run the business of each state, they created state constitutions to organize their state system. Each state took on the three branch system to organize their state government. The executive branch has a governor as the state leader. The legislative branch in most states is also bicameral or has two houses mimicking the federal Congress. Lastly, the states created a judicial branch with a state supreme court with county and city court houses to support the local levels of the judicial branch.

Slaves cost more than servants, so initially only the wealthy could invest in slaves. The first British colonists in Carolina introduced African slavery into the colony in 1670, the year the colony was founded, and Charleston ultimately became the busiest slave port in North America. So that all labor was being done easier and the wealthy would be able to sell their slaves in order to establish royalty and have more money.
