mixas84 [53]

With the exception of Austria-Hungary, new imperialism was entrenched in the policies of all the European powers. This frenzy to acquire colonies was due to the potential financial and psychological benefits that colonies provide. Financially speaking, the colonies can help European nation’s name economy by firstly providing the raw materials necessary for industrialization which were lacking in continental Europe. Secondly, after using the raw materials to produce the merchandise, the colonies provided a market where the European nations can sell their manufactured goods. In what way were the Maya different from the Aztec and Inca civilizations?
seraphim [82]
A. The Aztec and Inca had large, united empires, but the Maya did not. The Mayan region was divided into several independent city-states, some of which became powerful. A king ruled each city-state and served as the head of the government, military, and religion. Each king had a court of followers and was advised by a council. To avoid war, kings often acted as diplomats as they formed alliances with other city-states. However, diplomacy often failed and, as a result, war between city-states was common. The city-state structure of the Maya prevented them from uniting into an empire.
