Cincinatus was a Roman stateman who showed selfless devotion to the Republic in moments of crisis and gave up the power when it was over which allowed to maintain the Republic and not going back to monarchy. George Washington is called the American Cincinatus because he had a similar behavior. He retired when his service had been fulfilled and he also limited the presidential term to two.
