During its early years, the United States was seen as an ideal place for migration for people from Europe. During those years, immigrants from Europe were subject to persecution in their homeland due to their religious beliefs, as the whole continent was heavily influenced by the Catholic Church.

America was seen as a safe haven for these groups, which, with the years, established a big presence in the country. These groups were the Baptists, Methodists, Episcopalians, and to a lesser extent, the Quakers.
