The BLM protest is an example of people protesting against discrimination. Protests like these were held many times throughout history for equality. Additionally, a couple acts and laws were passed to ensure that there was racial equality and gender equality. For example:

- The Fifteenth Amendment was passed by Congress on February 26, 1869 and granted African American men the right to vote

- The Nineteenth Amendment was passed by Congress in 1920 which granted women the right to vote as well

- The Fourteenth Amendment was passed by Congress in 1868 which granted equal protection of the laws to all peoples regardless of race
