What is bowens reaction series
lesya692 [45]

Answer:

The ranking of common igneous silicate minerals based on the temperature at which crystallization occurs is called Bowen’s reaction series.

Explanation:

In Bowen’s reaction series the minerals with high crystallization temperature are present at the top layer. This means these minerals are the first to crystallize from the magma and they are mostly unstable. The Bowen's reaction series is represented in the Y shape. The left branch of this Y has minerals containing iron and magnesium. They are called as Ferromagnesium minerals.

The right branch of the Y contains plagioclase feldspars minerals. Temperature gradually decreases down along the Bowen’s reaction series from 1200^{\circ} \mathrm{C}to 700^{\circ} \mathrm{C}. At certain low temperature, the two branches combine forming minerals similar to felsic rocks such as orthoclase feldspar, quartz and muscovite mica.

Select all the statements that are correct for cooling magma. Multiple select question. At depth magma loses thermal energy to t
Maurinko [17]

The statements that are correct for cooling magma are:

 • When magma reaches the surface of Earth, thermal energy is transferred to the atmosphere and land surfaces by conduction and radiation;
 • Magma can lose heat when it releases gases either underground or above ground;
 • At depth magma loses thermal energy to the surrounding rocks by conduction;
 • And groundwater can receive heat from magma by conduction.

What is magma?

Magma can be regarded as the mixture of molten rock that do forces itself to the surface of the Earth.

At the depth of the ground , it should be noted that magma loses thermal energy to the surrounding rocks by conduction.
