In the American colonies in 1776 Loyalist party affiliates, also known as Tories,  were loyal to the British crown. Many Loyalists assured British leaders of their unwavering loyalty to Great Britain and asserted that they would fight for the British in the event of war.

Loyalists believed that a loyalty was owed to Great Britain, that removal of British rule would lead to a collapse of the American colony's economy. Many loyalists were wealthy British officials who had economic ties to England. Others remained loyal due to the immense power of the British military who was known for their incredible naval fleet. Many Loyalists after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, fled the American colonies, taking their wealth with them, to Canada, British Caribbean territories, or back to Great Britain.

During the war some women chose to aid through nursing, spying, disguising themselves as men and fighting, and/or following war camps to aid in care of soldiers. Many loyalist women were left in an awkward position after the Declaration of Independence to stay and care for properties. These properties were often confiscated to punish their husbands, but also punished the women and children with these confiscations. Women were allowed to vote in some states, but outlawed against in doing so in other states. Women's education was also a source of issue because they were not allowed to be educated equal to men but single women were granted more freedoms than married women who lost almost all of their identity post marriage.

Patriots were those who believed that American colonies had the right to independence from Great Britain. Patriots believed that they were being unfairly and harshly taxed by the British and wanted to put an end to it. After the signing of the Declaration of Independence, many Patriots stepped into governmental and political roles. There was a large shift

The phrase "all men are created equal" is one of great controversy because it was open to interpretation. Who exactly is meant by "men"? Does it mean only the male gender, or mankind as well? Are African Americans (and slaves/indentured servants) included in the equality? Do women hold a right to this equality?

DiKsa [7]
A brand known to be competent with your favorite brand is not declared as competent if not for its reputation on the customers. Besides, if you have a limited budget and there is a 50 % off retail price on another brand, it is practical to buy the brand on sale.

Thesis for the fable of the elephant house
vovikov84 [41]

<u>"The Giraffe and The Elephant</u>" is a modern fable by R. Roosevelt Thomas Jr., from “<em>Building a House for Diversity: how a fable about a giraffe & elephant offers new strategies for today’s workforce.</em>” It discusses the topic of diversity in the workplace.

The fable tells the story of an elephant that could not feel comfortable at the giraffe's house because of its dimensions. While the giraffe suggests to the elephant to try to fit the house, the elephant concludes that maybe the house is just not meant for him.

The thesis of the fable is to try to build a workplace that is accomodating of the workers' diversity, instead of trying to make the workers fit a preconceived notion of the workplace.

One reason the Japanese followed a policy of expansionism before World War II was to gain
lara [203]

The relocation of Japanese-Americans into internment camps during World War IIwas one of the most flagrant violations of civil liberties in American history. According to the census of 1940, 127,000 persons of Japanese ancestry lived in the United States, the majority on the West Coast. One-third had been born in Japan, and in some states could not own land, be naturalized as citizens, or vote. After Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in December 1941, rumors spread, fueled by race prejudice, of a plot among Japanese-Americans to sabotage the war effort. In early 1942, the Roosevelt administration was pressured to remove persons of Japanese ancestry from the West Coast by farmers seeking to eliminate Japanese competition, a public fearing sabotage, politicians hoping to gain by standing against an unpopular group, and military authorities.

On February 19, 1942, Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which forced all Japanese-Americans, regardless of loyalty or citizenship, to evacuate the West Coast. No comparable order applied to Hawaii, one-third of whose population was Japanese-American, or to Americans of German and Italian ancestry. Ten internment camps were established in California, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Wyoming,Colorado, and Arkansas, eventually holding 120,000 persons. Many were forced to sell their property at a severe loss before departure. Social problems beset the internees: older Issei (immigrants) were deprived of their traditional respect when their children, the Nisei (American-born), were alone permitted authority positions within the camps. 5,589 Nisei renounced their American citizenship, although a federal judge later ruled that renunciations made behind barbed wire were void. Some 3,600 Japanese-Americans entered the armed forces from the camps, as did 22,000 others who lived in Hawaii or outside the relocation zone. The famous all-Japanese 442nd Regimental Combat Team won numerous decorations for its deeds in Italy and Germany.

The Supreme Court upheld the legality of the relocation order in Hirabayashi v.United States and Korematsu v. United States. Early in 1945, Japanese-American citizens of undisputed loyalty were allowed to return to the West Coast, but not until March 1946 was the last camp closed. A 1948 law provided for reimbursement for property losses by those interned. In 1988, Congress awarded restitution payments of twenty thousand dollars to each survivor of the camps; it is estimated that about 73,000 persons will eventually receive this compensation for the violation of their liberties.
