President Nixon's firing of several staff members who refused to follow his orders became known as the Saturday Night Massacre.
The Saturday Night Massacre was the term used by political commentators to refer to the dismissal by the President of the United States, Richard Nixon, of the Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox, which gave rise to the resignations of Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus on October 20, 1973, during the Watergate scandal.
