What number is bigger than five and one - sixth by the same amount that one and one eighth is less than one and one fourth?

Let the number be n.

Then n - 5 1/6 = 1 1/4 - 1 1/8
          n - 5 1/6 = 10/8 - 9/8= 1/8

Then n - 5 1/6 = 1/8.  Multiply all three terms by 24 to eliminate fractions:

24n - 124 = 3.  Adding 124 to both sides, 24n = 3+124.  Then 24n = 127,
and n = 127/24.

What are the coordinates of the image (-3,-1) after a 90 counterclock wise e about the orgin and then translation 4 units up
katovenus [111]

1. The counterclockwise rotation by 90° about the origin has rule:

(x,y)→(-y,x).

Then

(-3,-1)→(1,-3).

2. Translation 4 units up has rule:

(x,y)→(x,y+4).

Then

(1,-3)→(1,1).

Answer: after composition of transformations the image point has coordinates (1,1).

ed spent 8.5% of his savings on lunch,which cost 5.25$. how much did he have in savings before lunch
kvv77 [185]
Just compare fractions.

$5.25/x = 8.5/100

Then multiple both sides by 100 and both sides by x;

525 = 8.5x

Divide both sides by 8.5

x ≈ $61.77
