I. Intro

General statement- Say something like "there are several types of forms of poetry." However, a broad statement about the topic will do.
Narrowed down statement- "Two of these forms are narrative and lyric forms."
Thesis- "These forms are very different. Lyric form is a short poem in which a single speaker presents a state of mind or an emotional state. However, narrative poetry gives a verbal representation, in verse, of a sequence of connected events."

A possible intro for this essay could be...

There are several types of forms of poetry. Two of these forms are narrative and lyric forms. These forms are very different. Lyric form is a short poem in which a single speaker presents a state of mind or an emotional state. However, narrative poetry gives a verbal representation, in verse, of a sequence of connected events.

Put that down and you won't get a zero. Now, idk anything else about the topic so I really can't help you with the bodies. However, if you want an outline...

P1 - narrative poem... you could discuss how it goes in order and describes events that might have happened. Maybe one wants to write about something significant in their life in this form. Idk.

Why go to the library? You got this site here... http://www.poetrysoup.com/poems_poets/poem_detail.aspx?ID=580126

Think I would get off my rear end to go to the library? This is how I did them in English class. I did this once on a paper and got a 98.

P2 - lyric - Discuss how it lets the poet express how he or she feels about something... in fact that would be a possible use for it.

http://examples.yourdictionary.com/examples-of-lyric-poetry.html

^There is your example. Again, you don't need the library.

Here is how you would write a conclusion...

Step 1) Write: "To sum it up, lyric and narrative are two different forms of poetry writing. Each serves a wonderful purpose."

Step 2) Summarize the main points in your body paragraphs in a sentence or two. One sentence for each form. You can do this with the info I gave you though, it's straight regurgitation.

Step 3) Write a clincher... idk something like "These forms of poetry have been the basis for many amazing poems." However, any "last thought" statement will do.

Answer: Narrative poem is longer and 'story telling' inclined while lyric poem is shorter and highly musical.

Explanation: when studying poetry, we need to know the types/kinds of poetry we are dealing with. There are generally two clear kinds in mind I.e lyric poem and narrative poem.

Lyric poem:

This is a non narrative poem in which a single speaker brings forth his mind or an emotional state. Its is musical and therefore has musical verse that expresses the speakers feeling and observations.

Lyrical poems should posses musical qualities like rhythm alliteration and also onomatopoeia. Lyric poem is usually short.

Forms of lyrical poem may include:-

sonnet, ode, haiku, villanelle, adubade, shaman, romantic verse ...

Examples of lyrical poems include:-

- AMERICA by Robert creeles

-ODE TO NIGHTINGALE by John Keats

NARRATIVE POEM

On the other hand is given a verbal representation of a series of connected events. Although has fallen out of fashion, narrative poem had its moments of glory. Narrative poem tells a compelling story be it short story or flash fiction.

It's normally made of a beginning, middle and end in other words, Introduction, Body and Conclusion. A narrative can also include any form of expression common to any type of poem e.g typographic elements, metaphors, irony e.t.c All these elements must help the narrative it self by propelling the action to rise to climax.

A narrative can be long or short, as long as they can tell a story.

Forms of narrative poem may include :-

EPIC, BALLAD, IDYLL, LAY, ROMANCE

EXAMPLES OF NARRATIVE POEMS ARE

EASEY AT THE BAT by Sir Walter Scott

THE RAVEN by Edgar Allen Poe

In conclusion

Narrative poem is longer while lyrical poem is shorter

Narrative poem is more story-like while lyrical poem is highly musical

Narrative poem gives a verbal representation of series of connected events while lyrical is about describing feelings

Things they both have in common

They are both romantic

They both have rhyming scheme

1. This is the oldest building in our city.

The article "the" was missing.

2. Your bag is more colorful than mine.

You need the object of the pronoun. Also, American English does not use a "u" in color.

3. Tom can speak German more fluently than the other students in our class.

You need the adverb form of fluent since it is describing how fluently Tom can speak.

4. Can you run faster than me?

Eliminate the word more. It is not needed since adding /-er/ to fast creates the comparative form.

5. The new math teacher doesn't seem as nice as our previous one.

Nice should be in the adjective form since it is describing the teacher not what she is doing. FYI-in American English math does not have an /s/.

6. The tea wasn't cool enough - I couldn't drink it.

The words cool and enough need to be switched.

_____

1. This is the best dessert I've ever eaten, it's absolutely delicious!

Since the dessert is better than all the other desserts, there are three or more things being compared. The superlative form is needed.

2. I think German is easier than Russian - I'm quite good at German but the Russian alphabet is so difficult to learn.

Since there are only two items being compared, German and Russian, the comparative form with "easier" must be used.

3. I think the older parts of 'Star Wars' are more interesting than the later ones - I really like Chewbaca and Han Solo in the old trilogy.

The word "more" is needed here since you can't add /-er/ to interesting. Also it's comparing older parts to later ones...this actually does not make sense. Later should be changed to newer...but that is not what this assignment is about.

4. People generally think that men are better drivers than women but women usually drive more carefully and cause fewer accidents.

In this sentence the driving skills of men and women are being compared so it needs "more" since /-er/ cannot be added to carefully.
