I have a question about the difference between a Hat and a Cap in North America? I mean like I just recently moved to Canada and

I'm confused about when in my dance class, a girl said our costumes include a black hat, (we're doing hip hop btw, and I know hip hop hats but like when I search hats up it shows me the Second option in the picture, I'm so embarrassed about asking them that so please help me out)
If you're a North American and if it's different here, what hat was she talking about Or maybe my question should be...What picture comes into your mind first when you hear hat? In North America? Choice 1 or choice 2 ?

In America, the picture on the right is called a baseball cap and the picture on the left is called a hat. However, I personally call them both hats. In your situation, it sounds like they are referring to the picture on the right.

I hope this helps.
