The July Revolution or French revolution of 1830 was fought to overthrow King Charles X. As the result, his cousin, the Duke of Orléans, Louis Philippe, rose to power. The French, in rough terms, had one goald in mind, to trade one constitutional monarchy for another, less absolutist, that of the house of Orléans. This event impacted all of Europe and in France in particular, it sparked a republican uprising most famously depicted in Victor Hugo´s <em>Les Misérables</em>.
