The film The Birth of Nation told the stories about the relationships between a pro-Union family and a pro-Confederacy family during the Civil War and the Reconstruction Era. It was a highly controversial film because it portrayed KKK as an heroic force and black men were shown as aggressive, dumb and rude to white women in sexual terms. The film is claimed to be one of the reasons of the revival of the KKK. It also inspired protests and demonstrations of black people against its contents.
