<span>A. Desertification is increasing and the desert is expanding </span> the area surrounding the Sahara is known as the Sahel. The area is arid and semi arid.the main economic activity in these areas is mainly nomadic pastoral ism. Over grazing is causing a great deal of loss of vegetation cover. This is made worse by increased deforestation, mainly for charcoal burning and to get wood which is an important source of energy. <span></span>
