1. The Cuban Missile Crisis is maybe one of the most traumatic and stressful events that occurred during the period of Cold War. It was a major diplomatic endeavor and if cooler heads had not prevailed it would have led to the World War 3 and the destruction of most of the world.

2. The Cuban Missile Crisis began when the CIA with the the pictures taken of Cuba detected the large deployment of missiles by the Soviet Union. Nuclear weapons were also detected which prompted a swift response and blockade of Cuba by the United States.

3. Two leaders that were involved in the Cuban Missile crisis were the United States President John F. Kennedy and the First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union Nikita Khrushchev. These were the two leaders that went head to head in during this period.

4.This period was also known as 13 Days of Terror and it was resolved because both countries agreed to each others demands which was Soviet withdrawal from Cuba and the US withdrawing weapons from Turkey. We must also acknowledge and appreciate Vasili Arkhipov who casted a single vote against deploying the nuclear weapons against the US. He was an officer on the Soviet nuclear submarine who refused to follow the captains orders for deployment. The deployment required the agreement of all three officers.

What was lincolns purpose for writing the house divided speech
o-na [289]

Lincoln hoped to use a well-known figure of speech to help rouse the people to recognition of the magnitude of the ongoing debates over the legality of slavery. His use of this paraphrased metaphor is perhaps clearer when you look at some more of his speech:

"A house divided against itself cannot stand." I believe the government cannot endure permanently half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved — I do not expect the house to fall — but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing or all the other. Either the opponents of slavery will arrest the further spread of it, and place it where the public mind shall rest in the belief that it is in the course of ultimate extinction; or its advocates will push it forward till it shall become alike lawful in all the States, old as well as new — North as well as South.

As you can see, in this metaphor, the "house" refers to the Union — to the United States of America — and that house was divided between the opponents and advocates of slavery. Lincoln felt that the ideals of freedom for all and the institution of slavery could not coexist — morally, socially, or legally — under one nation. Slavery must ultimately be universally accepted or universally denied.

Which was a cause or result of England's conflict with Spain in the late 1500s?
AnnZ [28]

Answer:

The correct answer is: Spain sent a fleet of ships called the Spanish Armada to crush the English Navy.

Explanation:

In 1566, the Dutch had rebelled against the Spanish, as the Netherlands was one of many Spanish Colonies. The main reason for the rebellion was the fact that many of the Dutch citizens become Protestants and because of that, they were persecuted by Catholic Spain. Spaniards sent an army to the Netherlands to fight the rebellion.

Catholic Spain also was a threat to England (they also become Protestants), so queen Elizabeth decided to help the Dutch.

In 1584, Spain allied with the French Catholic League to fight against Protestants in the Netherlands. In response, Elizabeth signed the Treaty of Nonsuch in 1585 where she promised to send an army to the Netherlands to fight against Spaniards.

This battle is considered a declaration of war against Spain. King Philip II began the preparations to send the Spanish Armada to invade England. This battle was one of the largest in the Anglo-Spanish War between 1585 and 1604. The defeat of the Spanish Armada brought Elizabeth great popularity and fame among England.
