Let g be the number of grandchildren, and d be the number of dogs. They both have only one head, so the number of heads is

g+d=33

Grandchildren have 2 legs, while dogs have 4. So, the total number of legs is

2g+4d=84

From the first equation (the one for the heads) we can derive

g=33-d

Substitute this into the second to get

2g+4d=84 \implies 2(33-d)+4d=84 \iff 2d=18 \iff d=9

So, there are 9 dogs and (from the first equation

g=33-9=24

A rectangular prism has a length of 20 in a width of 2 in and a height of 3 1/4 in the prism is filled with cubes that have edge
Zinaida [17]
You can express the edge lengths in terms of "cubes" or you divide the total volume by the volume of a cube. It works either way.

Edge lengths are
.. 80 cubes by 8 cutes by 13 cubes
so total volume is
.. (80 * 8 * 13) = 8320 cubes

In cubic inches, the volume is
.. (20 in)*(2 in)*(3 1/4 in) = 130 in^3.
The volume of a 1/4-in cube is (1/4 in)^3 = 1/64 in^3.
Then the number of cubes that will fit in the prism is
.. (130 in^3)/(1/64 in^3) = 8320 . . . . cubes

8320 cubes are needed to fill the rectangular prism.

What is the solution to the system?
X+3y = 5
5x-3y = 7
S_A_V [24]

Answer:

x + 3y = 5

5x - 3y = 7

Add up both equations, then:

6x = 12

=> x = 2

=> y = (5 - 2)/3 = 1

A family is driving from Phoenix to San Francisco. On a map grid, Phoenix is located at (–12, –16), and San Francisco is located
asambeis [7]
The total distance that the family has driven is the sum of the distances from Phoenix to San Francisco,
                            d = sqrt ((5 - -16)² + (-36 - -12)²) = 10.63
from San Francisco to Blythe,
                             d = sqrt ((-9 - 5)² + (-20 - -36)²) = 21.26
from Blythe to Los Angeles,
                             d = sqrt ((-4 - -9)² + (-33 - - 20)²) = 5.83
Adding the distances, we get 37.72.
