The aftermath of the war was led to lot of destroyed empires, creation of new nation-states and encouraged independence movements in Europe's colonies. It also forced the United States to become a world power and led directly to Soviet communism and the rise of Hitler

Since the United States won the territories from Mexico, the new colonies wanted to be slave colonies, and the general government disliked this.
