Georgia sold 40,000,000 acres of land for $500,000 to the Georgia Company, the Georgia-Mississippi Company, the Upper Mississippi Company, and the Tennessee Company.

Many Georgia politicians were stockholders in the companies buying the land.

The land was then re-sold for full profit, with massive payoffs to the Georgia politicians involved in the original sale

Answer: the Yazoo Land Fraud.

Explanation:

The Yazoo land fraud was a scheme developed in 1795.

Four land companies bought part of Georgia’s western lands, for a price far below its market worth. To do so, Georgia´s legislators were bribed, and by the 1796 election, there was a large turnover of legislators due to the anger this plot generated among the people.

Even though the new authorities quickly revoked the Yazoo act and paid the money back, by then most of the land had already been resold to third parties.

. What did Texas become when it declared its independence from Mexico?
Alex_Xolod [135]

Answer:

The Republic of Texas

Explanation:

Since its independence from Spain in 1821, Mexico encouraged Americans to settle in the territory of Texas, but by the late 1820s, the Americans surpassed the Mexican population and there was a growing concern. Mexico tried to enforce the use of Spanish and the Catholic religion.

Conflict ensued and in 1835 it turned into a full violent confrontation.

In 1836 Texas declared its independence from Mexico and soon after drafted the constitution. Texas remained an independent Republic until 1845.
