The election of 1800 was bitter because people had different opinions on who should have been elected. Now, people still have different opinions on who will be the president however, they are not as ferocious.

Here is my answer:

The election of 1800 was bitter as all of the people had their own opinions on who should have been elected. The people still have their own opinions on who will be the president nowadays, however, they are not as brutal.
