Let Linda has x amount.
⇒ Linda = x

Reuben has 4 times what Linda has.
⇒ Reuben = 4x

Frank has $7 more than Linda.
⇒ Frank = x + 7

Total = x + 4x + x + 7
Total = 6x + 7

Their total is $97
⇒ 6x + 7 = 97

Solve x :
6x + 7 = 97
6x = 90
x = $15

Linda = x = $15
Reuben = 4x = 4(15) = $60
Frank = x + 7= 15 + 7 = $22

Answer: Linda has $15, Reuben has $60 and Frank has $22

Need help plzzzzz The first one and the second one plZ
solong [7]

From both sides of the equation, 4 should have been subtracted.

The solution should look like this:

X + 4 = 28

From each side, subtract 4 :

X = 24

I'd like to demonstrate more steps, but the answer has already popped up, so there aren't any more steps.

Solve the equation. 5x + 6 = 2(2x – 3)
brilliants [131]
Isolate the variable on one side of the equation and everything else to the opposite side of the variable.

You can isolate the variable by undoing the operations done to the variable.
For example, if we added 5 to x (x + 5) then we would need to undo that operation. We would need to use the inverse of addition. Which is subtraction.

5x + 6 = 2(2x - 3)
5x + 6 = 4x - 6 <-- Distribute the 2
x + 6 = -6 <-- Subtract 4x from each side
x = -12 <-- Subtract 6 from each side

So, x is equal to -12.
