Answer:

From a strategic point of view, the Battle of the Coral Sea was a victory for the Americans. because they stopped the invasion of Port Moresby, which was canceled shortly after. It was the first time that the Allies had stopped a Japanese invasion.

Explanation:

The Battle of the Coral Sea was a naval battle between two world powers: Japan and the United States. The events were triggered on February 9, 1942, in the Coral Sea during the course of World War II.

The result was a Japanese tactical victory because they managed to sink the USS Lexington aircraft carrier, seriously damaged the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier, and also sank an escort destroyer and an oil tanker.

However, the Americans scuttled the Japanese aircraft carrier Shoho and seriously damaged the aircraft carrier Shokaku. As a result of the battle, the Japanese assault on Port Moresby was prevented and the Japanese lost two major units that could have been employed in the Battle of Midway.
