  • During his childhood, he has a great impression of the Harichandra and Saravana stories. Thus this made him adopt the love and truth  as the two most essential principles of life.  
  • He was intensely influenced by his mother's teachings from the books of Bhagavad Gita and Puranas.  
  • He has great respect for his mother's extreme pious. His mother's prayers and fasting greatly inspired him.  
  • He was medium in studies, shy and he had no intention in games and His only companion in childhood was school lessons and books.

The author use positive and negative connotations in the excerpt given above in order to expose the two sides of his presentation. Connotations generally have meanings that are implied by words which is different from what they literally described. Positive connotations are words that have positive meanings while negative connotation have negative meanings. The two connotations are used together in the excerpt above to provoke argument.
