The piece which can be split apart during a reaction catalyzed by an enzyme is SUBSTRATE.
Many components are involved in enzyme-catalyzed reactions, these include the enzyme, the substrate, energy barrier and the products formed. The substrate is the chemical compound upon which the enzyme acts. The action of the enzyme on the substrate can be divided into two, it is either the enzyme bring two substrates together or the enzyme can split one substrate into two,depending on the type of reaction that is involved. The splitting or the addition of the substrate usually occur at the active site of the enzyme.

Many foods must be refrigerated to prevent spoiling (microbial growth). Explain why honey (which is ∼82% carbohydrate by weight)
VLD [36.1K]

Answer;

-Honey contains a considerable amount of sugar (about 82% carbohydrate) and therefore when a microbe (e.g., a fungal spore or bacterium) lands on honey the process of osmosis causes water to be drawn out of the microbe thus blocking its ability to live and proliferate.

Explanation;

Antibiotics are used to kill or inhibit bacteria growth. Honey contains hydrogen peroxide, which may account for some of its antibacterial properties. It also has a high sugar content, which can help stop the growth of certain bacteria.

-Additionally, honey has a low pH level. This works to pull moisture away from bacteria, causing the bacteria to get dehydrated and die off.
