The Settlement on the Roanoke Island is popularly known as the Lost Colony.

It was part of an early attempt by the British to develop a permanent settlement in the New World.

Under Sir Walter Raleigh, a group of men, women, and children landed in what is the modern-day County Dare in North Carolina.

A small settlement was developed with a number of houses built around good farmland.

The settlement started to receive regular supplies from across the Ocean and was becoming more established.

However, due to the Anglo-Spanish war, supplies were abruptly stooped for 3 years.

After the end of the war, Sir Walter Raleigh visited the settlement again but found a completely deserted area.

The houses were systematically dismantled, there were no signs of struggle or violence and no messaged has been left behind.

90 Men, 17 women, and 11 children had just left the place without a trace.

There was an attempt to search the surrounding areas but bad weather prevented further exploration.

No other attempts were ever made to find the missing people and the 'Lost Colony' remains a mystery to this day.
