The collision of oceanic and Continental crust creates distinct landforms and features. When these plates collide subduction occurs as the heavier oceanic crust is dragged beneath the continental crust in a process called subduction. Deep focus earthquakes occur here as the plate subducts. The zone of subduction is marked by an oceanic trench. As the oceanic plate melts it creates excess magma which forces its way to the surface to form volcanoes. Compression as a result of the collision leads to the formation of folds and overtime extensive fold mountain ranges develop. An example of this type of collision can be found all around the Pacific plate. This region is known as the Ring of Fire.

Explain the relationship between mountains and capital cities?
soldi70 [24.7K]
For cities, mountains can be both a help and hindrance. Whilst mountains can be a barrier to trade and transport, they form a natural line of protection from invasion. Therefore, many ancient cities thrived when located near mountains, with the reduced risk of attack affording them time to grow and prosper
