The Southern states threatened to secede should Abraham Lincoln be elected president (which he was) because they knew he was pro-Union and supported the abolition of slavery, the very institution the South was built on.

Lincoln was very strongly against slavery, and slavery was a favoured view at that time. People in the South were upset about him winning because they liked slavery. However the North wanted to abolish slavery.

How did miller use gossip to implicate the whole town in the events of the witch trials?
PIT_PIT [208]
Clearly the trials are begun by the wagging of tongues after the girls are found in the woods, but gossip certainly has a more enduring role. Reputations in Salem are made or broken based on slander and rumor, and reputation was a man's only defense against accusation - and even that often failed to correct aspersions. But gossip also proves to be a destructive force even in the hands of the good and unwitting, taking on a life of its own - Giles Corey, for instance, condemns his own wife simply by a slip of the tongue.

Which of the following types of governments would likely give people at the local level the most power?
Tema [17]
Confederation

Membership to a confederation is deemed voluntary and as a result members exercise more autonomy in decision making. this is unlike in a federation, whereby the government exercises more power over the member states. in a confederation, the authority is also answerable to the member states. in USA for example, the independence constitution established a confederation, whereby member states had more local powers.
