True, it is easy to get lost while exploring different resources for research. This consumes more time that could have been productive in other areas.

In other to overcome this, there is SIFT developed by Mike Caulfield which informs someone on how to stay focused and productive while doing the research.

They include:

1. S - Stop to check yourself and the task which you are going to embark on

2. I -  Investigate the source of the resources with regards to the approach of the resources to the topic you are working on, its reputation from other souces, authors authority on that field as well as if there is any conflict of interest between the author, its projects and the funding organization.

3. F -  Ensure to find better coverage of the topic you are working on. And, lastly,

4. T -  Trace claims, quote and digital media information back to the original source.
