Although the light bulb had been invented by many scientists during the 1800s, those bulbs were not long-lasting. It was Edison's incandescent light bulb which was a major success. He improves the filament hence the bulb could last longer. Without the light bulb, we could still be using the candles. The invention of the light bulb had a big impact on the industrial revolution as it allowed the workers to work at night and in dark places. Without light, it couldn't have been possible for them to work. Later the bulbs were improved further, and it proved to be one of the most used technologies. Without light bulbs, life would have been different. The characteristics of Edison's bulb was that it glowed brighter and lasted longer.

Trade was the motivating factor. The silk road accross Asia was besieged by bandits & required bribes to a number of nations to transport goods to & from Asia. Therefore a sea route would be a much safer & less expensive means of getting trade goods to & from Asia.
