<span>Beatty tells Montag that the decline of books started around the Civil War. People became more interested in gossip and television, and books were condensed. Also, since some authors argued about the Civil War and had different opinions, there was conflict, and it was thought that in order to get rid of that conflict, it would be better to do away with the books. My reaction is that people became more interested in human interest and short ways to get news and entertainment instead of reading a thought-provoking book. It seemed that people didn't want to involve themselves in any of the difficult decisions anymore, they would rather push it to the back of their minds and enjoy the entertainment of television instead of going through the work of reading a book.</span>

Read the passage below and answer the question that follows: from Heidi By Johanna Spyri The early light of morning lay rosy red
zvonat [6]
The author's argument about life in the mountains would be that life was emotional and beautiful. According to the text, it states, "while the heights and the meadow lands were turning gold under the rising sun, which was just appearing above the topmost peaks."  Another piece of evidence is: "<span>The roaring in the trees always stirred a strong emotion within her and seemed to draw her irresistibly to them." </span>This supports the author's argument that life in the mountains was actually very enchanting.

Identify part of speech of the italicized word.
Alina [70]

Answer:

Verb.

Explanation:

In the given sentence, the italicized word is "wound" which can be taken in two ways. One is a noun that refers to a physical injury while the second is a verb that means to inflict pain or hurt to a person.

But in the sentence, the word is used to refer to the act of tying in a spiral pattern. This act of tying is an action verb, thereby making it a verb. The word "wound" as used in the sentence is the past tense form of the verb "wind".

So, the correct answer is a verb.
