The Nazi Germany practiced ethnic nationalism, or also referred to as ethno nationalism.

This form of nationalism states that the nation (the community) exists first, and the state is created around it, and to serve it. The ethnic nationalism explains a lot of violence in European history, particularly against groups like the Jews.

In Nazi Germany, there was ethnic nationalism and to some extent cultural nationalism as well. The Aryan (supposedly German) culture and race was considered to be the best alive, while a lot of other races and cultures were considered bad and had to be eradicated for example. This included the jews and gypsies at the time.
