In John Donne's poem "A Valediction Forbidding Mourning," the author intends to express his desire to have a peaceful death in which his wife does not mourn him. He suggests their love is so strong that it goes beyond the physical state and will continue after death. Morever, he compares their love to a compass - his wife is the foot of the compass, which helps him create a perfect circle. As a result, he implies his wife's strength makes him complete and have a dignified and respectable death.

Within The Tempest it is demonstrated that contact with native populations is rarely an even exchange; the native people are usually exploited in some way. This is demonstrated by the way that the "invaders" in the form of those who are shipwrecked at the beginning of the play attempt to change the islanders, little suspecting that one of them is the usurped Duke of Milan - now in the form of the wizard/magician Prospero.
To some extent it could also be argued that Prospero himself has already changed the nature of the island by being there. He has introduced magic, captures the monster Caliban and lies to his own daughter (allbeit it to protect her).
Conflict is the two opposing forces. This is what the main character is dealing with meaning his or her main struggle. This can change characters feelings or the story in general. It definitely deals with characters and their feelings.
