Dead Sea Scrolls
by Reginald Parks

The legendary scrolls of the Great Sea were one of the most sought after pieces of literature. The scrolls were said to tell the story of the boy who flew across the ocean with wings. These stories were passed on from century to century by one historian to another. However, the scrolls mysteriously vanished under the care of the monk Iago Macias while traveling on the Great Sea.1 After that, they were never seen again for hundreds of years, believed to have been lost at sea. Famous explorers, like Captain John Shark and Gerald Hines, searched for the scrolls.2 However, they failed to ever locate them.
The Great Sea scrolls seemed to be lost forever until Jonathan Reyes began his own quest to find them. In 1942, he and his team combed through the Great Sea.3 They used the knowledge of past historians to locate the area in which Macias was believed to have lost the scrolls. For months, the team searched until one of the divers spotted some strange debris on the sea floor.4 The pieces were bits of the scrolls that had been torn away by the sea. Reyes and his team carefully brought the remaining parts of the scrolls to the surface. There, they found that the scroll was almost perfectly preserved. With this discovery, the Great Sea scrolls were able to share their story after centuries of silence.

Martin Luther King Jr. was influenced by Thoreau’s "Civil Disobedience" because _____.
maria [59]

Martin Luther King Jr. was influenced by Thoreau’s "Civil Disobedience" because it explained methods for nonviolent protest. Option C is correct.

Thoreau’s "Civil Disobedience" was a blueprint for methods of nonviolent protest.

Thoreau wrote Civil Disobedience in 1849, amidst slavery issues and the Mexican-American war. He wrote it right after being imprisoned in Concord, Massachusetts charged with refusing to pay his taxes.

Thoreau claimed in the "Civil Disobedience" that the government was not fair, and democracy only favored and protected the majority.

He was reluctantto pay his taxes as part of the Civil Disobedience, since the Mexican American war would give way to an expansion of slavery he desagreed with.

Thus, Thoreau  was regarded to as the pioneer of nonviolent methods to protest against the government and that inspired Martin Luther King Jr.

How does art help readers understand the temple?
Lina20 [59]

Jack M. Lyon gives a beautiful presentation to the depths of his new book titled "Understanding Temple Symbols Through Scripture, History, and Art."

Taking sacred themes from the design, construction and presentation of holy temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lyon explores constructs and concepts of these scriptural symbols most respectfully through the lenses of history and art.

The book is full of gorgeous reproductions of ancient art, creating a stunning collection showcased between prophetic and scriptural quotes that draw the reader in toward new depths of understanding.

Lyon, a prolific author and a previous managing editor at Deseret Book, has presented a wealth of information for the mind and the spirit with this tool of temple thoughts. Organized by theme, the book is structured to cover preparation for the temple, the creation, the trees of life and knowledge, the mortal world, ordinances of the temple, and promises yet to be fulfilled. The prologue sets the tone as one of pondering, and the epilogue brings the reader full circle back to application in modern culture.

"Understanding Temple Symbols" works for those who want an in-depth academic analysis or their temple experiences to be enlightened further. The simple teachings of the temple make the book an easy read, while the historical references included with artwork and photographs could leave the reader busy for hours within its pages and pondering once the book is set aside.

Clearly, a culmination of Lyon's study process is well-documented through his previous publications as well as his editorial work on volumes by Hugh Nibley and "The Papers of Joseph Smith," "Understanding Temple Symbols" is a profound work of art and powerful in its own right. this is how i get to understand the temple
