Adenosine triphosphate is considered a high-energy compound. but how is that energy transferred to the cellular machinery?
egoroff_w [7]
Adenosine triphosphate is considered a high-energy compound. The energy of this compound is transferred to the cellular machinery by  the conversion of ATP to ADP. Along with this conversion is the release of energy which is used by the cells. ATP contains an ordered carbon structure which is the backbone of the compound and also it contains the triphosphate part which is the most important region of the compound. These phosphorus groups are being connected by oxygen atoms and they have oxygen atoms on the side. These atoms of oxygen has a negative charge which would cause for them to repel and would want to be away from each other. Removing even just one would release about 7.3 kcal of energy per mole of ATP.
