<span>Johnson didn't provide protection to the former slaves. He didn't want to pass the 14th Amendment. Although he supported the Union being back together he didn't really support the freedom of the slaves. Johnson tried to fire his cabinet who didn't agree with him. That is why Republicans started his impeachment.</span>
