Why did John C. Frémont initially settle in the Salinas Valley before marching north, only to march south to San Francisco?
Nimfa-mama [501]

John C. Frémont settled in Salinas to accompany the annexation of California and then went south to support John D. Sloat.

John Charles Frémont (1813 - 1890) was an American military man who stood out for participating in the annexation of California to the United States and for being the first candidate for the presidency of the United States presented by the Republican Party in its history.

The process for the annexation of California to the United States began in December 1845 when John Frémont entered the Mexican province of Alta California (State of California) accompanied by 60 men under his command.

This incursion had the endorsement of the Mexican authorities because the Americans had argued that they were going with the intention of making a scientific and topographical expedition.

However, Frémont was in charge of encouraging and advising American citizens living in that territory to separate from Mexico to become part of the United States.

This incursion caused the crisis in this region to begin in 1846 because the citizens of this region wanted to become independent from Mexico. Subsequently, on June 14, 1846, the Republic of California was declared, and 25 days later they were annexed to the United States Government.

At that time Fremont was established in the Salinas Valley. Once he learned that he had support in the city of Monterrey (further south of Valle de Salinas) he went there and put himself at the disposal of John D. Sloat but he rejected it.

what did phoenicians trade spread throughout the mediterranean region? I am in FCA. Sorry for the terrible quality photo
Lady bird [3.3K]

Answer:

A, E

Explanation:

The Phoenicians invented an alphabet of 22 characters denoting consonants. This alphabet then became the basis of the Greek, Latin, and Slavic alphabets. They radically improved shipbuilding, laid routes to the very ‘limits’ of the world known in their era, and even significantly extended these limits. In a sense, they became the first “globalizers" – they connected Europe, Asia and Africa with an all-pervasive web of trade routes.

Their method of building the fleet implied the introduction of certain standards, and, therefore, some system of measures and weights. These standards became common in the Mediterranean region. For example, the king of the Greek city of Argos - Fidon - introduced a unified system of measures of length and weight ("Fidon measures"), based on the Phoenician standards.

The best answer is C. physician's pledge to care for patients.

Hippocrates was a Greek practitioner of medicine, known by many today as the "Father of Modern Medicine" and established the Hippocratic oath which is still used today and required doctors to uphold ethics when caring for their patients. His philosophy of medicine, which includes the idea of doing no harm to a patient is a foundation for western medicine today.
