In an economic downturn, what can happen in countries that depend on high taxes to fund social programs?

History

If there's an economic downturn in a country where the taxes are very high, and those taxes are used for the funding of the numerous social programs, than the country can very quickly face high rates of poverty and maybe even an internal conflict.

If the economy suddenly starts to crumble, the people that work would not be able to support themselves with the paying of very high taxes, thus they will rebel against that in order for the taxes to be lowered down.

On the other hand, that will result in little to no funding for the social programs. That will bring in revolt in the people that are very poor and need those programs, but also the people that do not work by their will but have relied on those money.

These two sides of the picture can easily bring in a lot of violence, tensions, even a revolution.

Sveta_85 [38]

Answer:

Based on what I know about the changes and resources that helped the United States' industries to grow I would expect China's resources to increase as the years go by. Chinese industries are discovering new sources of raw materials to use, and Chinese cities are growing quickly. Natural resources are becoming more available.Between 1900 and 2006, total world steel production increased, and steel is becoming more useful as a building resource. Cities are becoming centers of manufacturing. In 2006, the United States produced more steel than it did in 1900, but China was the world's leading steel producer in 2006. In 1900, Europe had more steel-producing countries than other continents, but In 2006, the world's leading steel producers were located in Asia.

One of the main features of American history in the age of industrialization was the growing presence of the federal government
Finger [1]

As this question asks for an essay to be written by you, we cannot provide you with the whole essay. However, we can discuss some ideas that might guide you through your work.

The increasing presence of the federal government in the United States is a pattern that we can see in modern history. This presence became particularly significant with industrialization. One of the ways in which the federal government became more involved in American society was through the expansion of the market economy during the Civil War. The Civil War was a battle between the North and the South, with the North eventually winning partly due to its industrial capacities. This demonstrated the importance of development and industrialization, and led to an expansion of economy and industry in the years following the war. Moreover, this expansion was needed during Reconstruction in order to assimilate the newly free black population.

Some of these policies, such as the Homestead and the Pacific Railroad Acts had a deep impact in the West. These two acts allowed the population of the United States to expand west, creating more cities and expanding the national market. However, they also led to the loss of land (relocation) and autonomy of many American Indian nations.

Finally, there were some domestic factors that helped explain why the United States wanted to become an overseas empire. As the economy and industry of the country improved, America wanted to find new markets around the world. Moreover, the country was also inspired by the idea of Manifest Destiny. This idea argued that the United States had been chosen by God to spread a message of peace, democracy and the rule of law all over the world, and that this could be achieved through imperialism.
