The detail that helps the reader visualize the prairie setting is (c.) "Not a house in sight...".

<u>In literature, the setting is the place in which the events and actions happen</u>. The writer generally resorts to description in order to give the reader information about the setting because the setting is an important aspect of literature. In this passage, <u>the writer has also used description to help the reader visualize the prairie</u> ("Not a house in sight"). This passage has been taken from <em>Boy Life on the Prairie</em>, a book written by Hamlin Garland.

The primary purpose of both Queen Elizabeth's Address to the Troops at Tilbury and Response to Parliament's Request That She Mar
ICE Princess25 [194]

The correct answer is: to persuade.

Let's remeber that to persuade is "to make someone do or believe something by giving a good reason to do it or by talking to that person and making them beleieve it." To achieve this, the author can use logic and reason based on evidence and facts, or he can appeal to pathos, the emotions of the audience.

In this case, in the <em>Tilbury Speech</em>, Queen Elizabeth is trying to convince her troops that although she is a woman she is very capable to be a good leader and take them to victory. She is encouraging them to fight against the Spanish invasion. Their later victory against the Spanish Armada shows that this speech was effective as it made the troops follow their queen's leadership.

In the Response to the <em>Parliament's Request that she marry,</em> she persuades the Parliament that she has the freedom to choose what to do with her life. By reading the response, we can see that she chosed very carefully every word, this to keep people calm about her situation. She states that she is not in denial towards marriage but that things can't be rushed. In this way she calmed down the Parliament.

You studied literary works from the Romantic Period, the Victorian Age, and the modern era. Describe the common themes from each
zzz [600]
Although these three eras differ at some point, they have one similar theme that is about supernatural events. Romanticism and Victorian era often exaggerate and puts more emphasize on this theme while Modernism tries to prove that no such event or things exist. It might not be the expressed the same way but does, it three eras consider this theme common.

What is the most likely reason the author mentions problems in the publishing industry in paragraph 1? Support your answer with
nata0808 [166]

Considering the passage's content, the most likely reason the author mentions problems in the publishing industry in a paragraph is to let the reader know that "<u>there is still opportunity in the publishing industry despite current problems."</u>

Here, the author is trying to let the reader knows that currently, there are problems that need to be solved in the publishing industry. However, despite these problems, there is abundant opportunity in the publishing industry.

This was revealed when the author said that "<em><u>Despite reports to the contrary, this is a great time to be in publishing</u></em>."

Hence, in this case, it is concluded that the correct answer is "<u>there is still opportunity in the publishing industry despite current problems."</u>
