After the great-war devastated Europe, decimated Europe’s male population and killed a large number of civilians. Because of that many countries such as Britain blamed Germany for the war and wanted vengeance, Lloyd George promised to make Germany pay. Germany was demanded to pay huge sums of reparations.

On the other side, Woodrow Wilson believed that Germany should be punished but it should not be so drastic because Europe needed reconciliation rather than revenge.

In the end, Germany had 13% of its territory stripped, border territories of Alsace and Lorraine returned to France, lost all its colonies, the size of army and navy was cut, airforce and submarines were forbidden and reparations were fixed at 6,000 million £
