iogann1982 [59]

Answer: There are several ways in which the book and the radio broadcast are different. The book is set in 1898, and told in the past tense. The radio broadcast, on the other hand, is set in 1938, and told in the present tense. Moreover, the broadcast is told as news, as if the events were being reported as they were happening.

How are the possibilities of ""designer babies"" similar to handicaps in ""Harrison Bergeron""?
Helen [10]

Answer:

Both possibilities are similar because, they take away the rights of the victims or subjects, without seeking their consent.

Explanation:

'Designer babies' is a new invention in science and reproduction where the genes of unborn babies are edited or altered with the purpose of adding a gene, or removing a gene relating to a disease. This practice has raised a number of ethical concerns, one of which is the fact that future generations could be affected by this alteration.

In the book, 'Harrison Bergeron', by Kurt Vonnegut, handicaps were limitations placed on people with exceptional attributes. These handicaps could be in the form of mutilation and other traumatizing treatments. This was aimed at creating a country with equality. This practice took away the fundamental rights and freedom of the citizens, making them to live in fear and hide their abilities.

These two scenarios are similar in the sense that they seriously impede on the rights of the people experiencing them, leaving them with no say on the matter.

yarga [219]
<span>"...so of course it kills them. The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry." This is a quote from Henry in "A Farewell to Arms" by Ernest Hemingway     In this scene Henry is contemplating the importance of his and Catherine's relationship and how it is his only escape from this vampiric world that seems set on  killing the good people before that can ever help make any changes for the better. </span>
