<span>The natives often had their living areas overrun by settlers who were looking to expand in the new colonies and the new continent. In addition, the natives did not have resistance to many of the diseases that were being brought to the new lands from Europe, which rendered them vulnerable to decimation by a fast-moving outbreak of these illnesses, many of which did greatly lower the native populations.</span>
