Why is provis to be kept at the "pool" and great expectations?

<span>Provis is kept at the pool in Great Expectations because he is dying anyway. Provis has injured his lungs and also has two broken ribs. He is gravely ill. Pip reads to him and visits him but Provis declines none the less. The trial goes on and Provis is found guilty and sentenced to death. Pip isn't allowed to see him as much but does tell Provis that his child lived and found powerful friends. Pip also tells Provis that he loves her shortly before Provis passes.</span>
