Answer:

Kipling clearly liked the idea of enslaving the people of one Asian country on the other side of the world. The White Man's Burden was written with the sole intention of persuading Americans not to give freedom to the Philippines. On the other hand the political cartoon is obviously is showing that the white man is carrying all other races on his back, and that without him they wouldn't prosper.

Explanation:

This poem was once very popular. It was written in 1899, at a time when Filipinos were fighting for independence from the United States of America. Many readers today are probably not aware of the fact that the United States colonized the Philippines.

Poem is, by modern standards, extremely offensive. The author calls the population of another race "freshly caught, frowned upon people" who are "half devil and half children." He criticizes them for not accepting white people as "better than themselves" and those who "brought them to the light of day" by colonization.

"White man's burden" is a term synonymous with English imperialism and racism in the English-speaking world today.

What were two privileges that Mehmed II extended to non-Muslims in the Ottoman Empire?
klasskru [66]

Answer:

A.

Explanation:

Even though Constantinople and the surrounding lands were under the

control of a Muslim ruler, the people were allowed to practice their own

religions. The sultan Mehmed II even allowed the Orthodox Church to

operate and maintain its autonomy to accept Ottoman rule. Due to

Western states' conflict at the time, most of the Orthodox Christian

population welcomed Ottoman rule and protection.

The Ottoman Empire continued to expand in the fifteenth and sixteenth

centuries. Mehmed's grandson, Selim the Grim, defeated the Safavids,

who had controlled Persia. He then moved east and went on to conquer

Syria and Palestine and marched to conquer North African lands.

Finally, Selim conquered Cairo in Egypt. The Ottoman Empire was at its

greatest extent under Selim's son, Suleyman. Suleyman expanded the

empire into Hungary and Austria and closed his grip on the

Mediterranean. At its height, the empire wrapped around the

Mediterranean Sea and grew to dominate trade throughout the region,

connecting Western Europe to Northern Africa and Central Asia. These

regions had significant river systems that benefited both agricultural

production and the transport of products. Interestingly, the Ottoman

Empire's control of trade between the West and the East motivated

Portugal to seek alternative trade routes, which eventually took them to

the Americas.

Critical Thinking: Can you think of any complaints that modern women would include in a list of grievances?
SVETLANKA909090 [29]

Answer:

-Discrimination at work place

-Wage gap

-Social expectations to have children

-Domestic violence

-Assault danger

Explanation:

Women are still not socially seen the same as men. Society has different observations and expectations of women and men, and there are some dangers and obstacles that are specific to the female gender. Some of the problems modern women can list are:

 • Job discrimination – in various countries, a wage gap still exists and women are still less paid than men. This happens even in Western countries. Women are also more likely to be laid off the job when they get pregnant and need parental leave.
 • Expectations as a mother – the role of women are still connected with the idea of motherhood. In cases when women do not want or can’t have children, she is often the subject of social discrimination (considered to be selfish and incompetent). It is as if her true natural role is not completed.
 • Assault danger – many women are in danger of assault. Women are the main victims of domestic assault, as well as in greater danger when they are walking alone, during the night, etc. There are specific assaults and people that target only women.
