Answer:

The correct answer is "Mortality".

Explanation:

In “Tenth Day: Tenth Story” by Giovanni Boccaccio, Dioneo tells the story of  the marquis of Sanluzzo, a man that has no interest of taking a wife but since  his vassals beg him to do it, he chooses a poor but virtuous wife and then he force them to accept her. The marquis tries to prove the fidelity of her wife and pretends to divorce her in order to marry someone younger, she passes the test and remains loyal to her husband. The avarice of the marquis is shown in his plot, the class conflict in the fact that he married a poor girl and the gender role reversal is shown when the marquis decides who he will marry. Mortality is the theme that is not addressed in the story, as no major character dies or faces a dying situation.

His, that, these, and those are the demonstrative pronouns.<br> true or false
xxMikexx [17]
True because this and these are near in time and that and those are far in time. Also there are only few demonstrative pronouns in the English language. Demonstrative nouns will always identify nouns, for example “I can’t believe this”. There is no idea what “this” is. It still exist even though we don’t know what it is.

Based on the context of the sentence, what is the meaning of the underlined cognate?
PolarNik [594]

Answer:

C. guard

Explanation:

A cognate is a word that has a common etymological origin with another one. Usually, cognates are inherited from a shared parent language, which accounts for their similarities. The fact that two words are cognates, however, does not mean they have to be similar in sound, meaning or appearance. Words that sound similar but do not have the same origin are called false cognates. On the other hand, words that are cognates but have opposite or different meanings are called false friends.
