Technically, enzymes are specialized proteins that help cells do some chemical reactions. Most chemical reactions don't start spontaneously, even if they are energetically favored. For example, take a paper that burns (combustion). This reaction gives off energy but one does not see paper combusting without outside intervention; one needs to put in some energy for the reaction to start. This energy is called activation energy. The role of the enzymes is to reduce the activation energy of a specific reaction (or at most some reactions). Thus, reactions that would not take place without an enzyme or would be very slow, are accelerated a lot since the activation barrier goes down. Hence, the correct statements are that enzymes speed up reactions, enzymes are biological catalysts (anything that speeds up a reaction is a catalyst to that reaction; enzymes are also biological in nature), their reactions are referred to as catalyzed (since there is a catalyst present).
The last sentence is false since enzymes decrease the energy of activation for the reaction they are catalyzing (if they increased it, this would make the reaction harder and slower).

• Enzymes allow the reaction to proceed faster.

• They are biological catalysts.

• Their reactions are considered as a catalyzed reaction.

Further Explanation:

Enzymes have a unique three-dimensional structure with the active site. Enzymes are generally found in the cytoplasm of the cell. Most enzymes are proteins. The initiation of the chemical reaction requires the activation energy. Enzyme lowers the activation energy of the reaction. Lower the value of activation energy lower will be the rate at which the chemical reaction can proceed. Both temperature and pH influence the activity of an enzyme. The speed of an “enzyme-catalyzed reaction” also rises with temperature, but only up to its optimum temperature. The enzyme activity is based on its ability to maintain its 3D structure, which can be affected by body temperature. The free energy of the chemical reaction cannot alter by the presence of an enzyme. It will surge the rate of both reverse and forward reactions.

The plant cells communicate across cell walls through Plasmodesmata.

how do plant cells communicate across cell walls?

  • Between tiny channels woven through the walls of neighboring plant cells, plant cells can communicate with one another through channels referred to as plasmodesmata.
  • These channels enable chemicals to move freely between cells, allowing plants to grow regularly and form tissues and organs.
  • However, plasmodesmata also act as entryways that viruses can employ to infect an increasing number of cells.
  • Given these advantages and disadvantages, plants must balance the permeability of their plasmodesmata in order to move materials from one cell to another while preventing the spread of infection.
