I believe the answer is: A.Boys were taken from their families to be raised in barracks.

By the age of 7, young Spartan Boys would be taken from their families to be put in a government program that require the Boys to undergone early military education. The education last until they are around 18 years old, and at that age they are allowed to take rigorous military tests that determine their social status in sparta.
