Jesus taught that God came into this world to redeem human beings. Jesus taught that he was the Son of God, who was one with the Father and the Spirit, and that true life is found in connection with him. The new life brought by Jesus motivates his people to love others and live according to God's will.
Most famously, Jesus said, "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16). Jesus' dear friend and apostle, John, summarized Jesus' teachings by focusing on how God brings life and light into human lives through his love. Some summary statements from John's first epistle:
"We proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us" (1 John 1:2).
"If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another" (1 John 1:7).
"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God" (1 Jn 4:7).
