Ill probably be wrong and not explain what I mean well but here:
talking littarly your shadow is something dark, behind you. in here I think it means like the darkness or bad stuff, fears and stuff that you believe in that keep you from doing stuff you wanna do or have to do. Therefore your life is restricted by your fears...your shadow. :)
